Sad Escobar- a series of pictures with the actor Wagner Moura, who played the Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar in the TV series Narcos. In the macros, Moura's character sits on a swing, at a table, and stands in an empty pool.

Origin

The footage of a sad Escobar is taken from the Netflix series Narkos, which aired on September 2, 2016. Wagner Moura played the lead role of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar.

On October 8 of the same year, a picture made up of three frames appeared on the Meme Generator website - all Escobar is depicted sad and lonely, as if he has been waiting for something for a very long time. The meme was called "Waiting Escobar", he is also known as "Sad Escobar".

The template gained popularity for several months and almost did not go beyond the meme generator. On October 11, a Reddit user posted a template in a thread dedicated to Oneplus 3 smartphone. He captioned the image “When I ordered Oneplus 3, but the purchase is still pending on the site.”

In August 2017, another redditor used the meme in a thread with advises pictures, writing over the template the phrase “When I watched the leaked series, and now I have to wait 10 days instead of 7.”

The Escobar meme reached its peak of popularity only in February 2018, when someone uploaded it to the /r/funny thread - it was a meme with the inscription “When your work colleague, with whom you always have lunch, fell ill.”

The meme was also distributed in Runet back in 2017, and by 2018 it had become truly recognizable.

Meaning

The sad Escobar meme shows the highest degree of boredom, depression or expectation of something. This effect is achieved by using three pictures with a character at once, each of which depicts him as dull as possible. The macro can be used without captions as a picture-reaction, or you can make it an advis by placing one or two phrases that describe a specific situation.

In early March, a photograph of a judge from the Rivne region Alla Bandura was found on the Internet, who horrified social network users with extravagant make-up “like the Joker” and an unusual hairstyle. This was the occasion for numerous jokes and funny pictures. Lenta.ru recalled other cases when ordinary citizens, by chance, unwittingly, turned into Internet stars.

Bandura's photo appeared on the pages of Ukrainian bloggers on Facebook, from where, having gained many likes and reposts, it migrated to the Russian segment of Instagram and Twitter.

The network immediately compared Bandura with the witch Ursula from the Disney cartoon "The Little Mermaid", a character from the post-apocalyptic video game Fallout 4 and fans of the American glam rock band Kiss. "Alla Bandura from the Rivne region - reflects the real face of the judicial system of Ukraine", - said one of the commentators.

According to Bandura herself, she did a make-up in haste in order to have time to be photographed for the official judicial publication. “Actually, I take care of myself. Like every woman, I love to be with a haircut. I don’t allow myself to appear on the street uncombed,” the judge emphasized.

She also added that she does not hold a grudge against pranksters who mock her on the Internet. “I even forgive the person who posted the photo first. Although it would be more honest if he asked my opinion before publication, ”she concluded.

In 2005, she was attacked by criminals dissatisfied with the harsh sentence. One of the bandits climbed through the balcony and, threatening with a knife, demanded: "Open the door, the lads have come to judge you." “Then I was stabbed 12 times - one blow was a millimeter from the heart,” said Bandura.

In early 2017, Turkish chef Nusret Gokce gained sudden popularity online. The fact is that he very elegantly sprinkled the steaks with salt. The corresponding video, published on his Twitter account, scored more than 90 thousand likes and turned into a meme.

Netizens liked so much how Gokcha filigree covered pieces of meat with grains of sea salt that they massively began to shoot parodies of the cook.

The fans of the Turk were joined by the football players of the French club "Olympic" and the Hollywood movie star Leonardo DiCaprio, who personally visited the Gokje restaurant in Dubai and tasted his author's steak.

At the end of February, 25-year-old British actor Kayod Evumi became famous online. He starred in a BBC short film called With the Past, playing the title role.

Throughout the tape, his character talks about his girlfriend, who, in his opinion, is very smart. The network remembered the frame where he taps his forehead with his finger. As a result, the black guy turned into a meme with win-win tips for all occasions.

A screenshot from the short film was massively published on Twitter, adding obvious advice to each picture, which is very difficult to argue with. “A girl may not take care of herself if she does not suspect herself of anything,” says one of the pictures.

In May 2016, 37-year-old Texas resident Candace Payne posted a video on Facebook in which she tried on the mask of the furry smuggler Chewbacca from the Star Wars movie saga.

Thanks to Payne's infectious laugh, the video went viral with over 166 million views. Candace got thousands of fans, some began to shoot parodies of their new idol. For example, Hollywood Today Live co-host Tanner Thomason posted a video in which a man dressed as Chewbacca puts on a Payne mask that supposedly makes her laugh.

A few days later, Payne was invited to air The Late Late Show, where she, along with host James Corden and director of the seventh episode of Star Wars, JJ Abrams, tried on Chewbacca masks.

Although no so-called random viral personalities have been seen on the Russian segment of the Internet over the past few years, RuNet boasts a lot of memes from the zero years. In 2006, an ordinary wedding photo turned into a meme, bringing a resident of the Moscow region the nickname "witness from Fryazino" and popularity that many celebrities would envy.

The colorful witness of the groom, dressed in white sports sweatpants and a leather jacket, became the personification of bad taste and "boy" style. The witness repeatedly admitted that he was not at all happy with his fame - in 2007 he even turned to the editors of Fryazino.ru. Info” (he considered the journalists of this edition to be guilty of his involuntary glory) and asked “to remove him from the Internet”.

The fate of the Internet star was tragic. In January 2015, the “witness from Fryazino” died before reaching his 45th birthday. According to rumors, his excessive addiction to alcohol contributed to his death.

Speaking about the viral memes of the Runet, one cannot fail to mention the philosophical saying of the vocalist of the grindcore band Bredor, nicknamed Escobar.

In an interview in 1994, a Ukrainian journalist asked the musician to tell which of the two music festivals presented he liked more. The musician, most likely under the influence of psychoactive substances, answered as succinctly and directly as possible. “Sho is ***, sho is ***. These are both *** like me, *** with her mother, ”he said thoughtfully and forever inscribed himself in the history of memes.

His dictum, eventually called "Escobar's Axiom", serves as a universal answer in situations where both options are equally bad.

In the hit YouTube video, a charismatic school gopnik puffs on a cigarette and engages in a one-sided dialogue with a cameraman, while demonstrating a mastery of obscene language. Having conquered the hearts of Runet users, the “dangerous potsyk” simultaneously turned into a cult character and a victim of thousands of musical works and video navels.

According to rumors, having matured and served in the army, the main character of the viral video nevertheless admitted that the video was staged, and all its characters are fictional. "Nothing indecent, just fooling around, but now I'm known to the entire Internet as a" dangerous potsyk "," he summed up.

Have you heard the saying of Pablo Escobar, which is often called "Escobar's axiom"? It is not so important who he is, but his words very clearly reflect the problem of choosing between two alternatives that are objectionable to us.

Who is Pablo Escobar?

Most often, theorems or axioms belong to the mind and activity of mathematicians or physicists, while the situation with Escobar's theorem is somewhat different. Pablo Emilio Escobar is a Colombian drug lord who was shot dead in 1993. During his lifetime, by virtue of his profession, he spoke mostly obscenely and did not make discoveries in mathematics or physics. Meanwhile, his authorship belongs to a fairly well-known phrase that illustrates a non-alternative choice. Translated into Russian and censored, it sounds like this: "If you choose from two opposites in a situation with no alternative, both options will be nonsense." This axiom became known quite by accident, after being published on the Lurkmore portal. Now this resource is buried, but the "theorem" has scattered over the Web and has become quite famous.

Is it a theorem or an axiom? A theorem needs confirmation, while an axiom is a postulate, a truth that does not require proof. Pablo Escobar's statement does not really need arguments "for", therefore it is more correct to call it an "axiom".

Synonyms for Escobar's statement

The axiom of the drug lord is not the first in history to clearly enough reflect the situation when we face two uncomfortable options as a choice. Remember the saying "choose the lesser of two evils", the meaning of which is close to the words of Escobar. The axiom in this case is this: if you don’t like both options, and there is no alternative, calculate which one you will lose less by choosing.

Between Scylla and Charybdis

Another synonymous statement refers to the winged expressions of Greek mythology and sounds like "between When Odysseus was on the voyage, he had to pass a dangerous place on the ship, located between two rocks. In one rock, called Charybdis, there was a cave, the abode of a terrible monster. And an evil sea goddess lived on Mount Scylla. It was impossible to pass the rocks, it was simply impossible to bypass them, and therefore Odysseus decided to sail past Scylla. As Odysseus calculated, the monster would have killed a maximum of half the team, while the sea goddess would have killed the entire team and Odysseus himself. And by doing so, the famous navigator saved most of the team.

Also in Russian there are sayings “from the fire to the frying pan”, “between the hammer and the anvil”, which mean all the same - in the case of two uncontested possibilities, you still have to choose something, but this choice will not please us.

Choice in modern realities

What does Escobar's theorem look like in real life? We are constantly faced with situations where we have to choose between alternatives that are completely bleak. Imagine that you need your job because of the salary you support your family. At the same time, your boss tells you that you have to stay late for a month or he will fire you. You understand that if you are fired, then finding a suitable job will be very difficult. And what to choose? You work for your loved ones, but you will have to give them up for a while in order to earn a living. If you choose relatives, then it is not a fact that you will find money for their maintenance in the near future. You do not like either option, but you will choose the lesser of evils.

There is always a choice

Escobar's theorem suggests that there are only two options, both of which we don't like. But meanwhile, reality implies, as a rule, much more possibilities. Faced with a non-alternative situation? Look at it from a different angle, maybe you haven't considered all the possibilities. Very often we "curtain" and close ourselves from the choice that lies in a different plane. In order not to become a victim of the Pablo Escobar theorem, the axiom is the following - allow yourself to look at the problem with different eyes. Give yourself time, become an indifferent indifferent observer, ask for advice from relatives or relatives. Along with the "two evils" there is another saying - "there is always a choice." And believe me, it's not just about Scylla and Charybdis, there's an opportunity to turn back or choose a completely different path. Escobar's axiom is a controversial statement. Very rarely life gives us only two options for the development of events.
