Ergonomics

What can I say, the screen is really great! The picture is especially impressive when you look at it at an angle of 45 °, as if it were not a “live” screen, but a layout. How sad it is, but comparing iPhone 4S with two iPods and two iPhone 4s, we were somewhat surprised by the purple hue on the new product. Moreover, in terms of saturation and contrast, the screen loses even the iPod. We don’t want to scare or alarm potential or existing owners of the latest generation of Apple multimedia devices, but if you have the opportunity, compare several 4S on this parameter, let us know the results. So, with a slight tremor, we still proceed to enumerate the characteristics of the display. Apple iPhone 4 and 4S use a 3.5 ”IPS-matrix with a resolution of 960x640 pixels. Taking into account the announcements and the imminent arrival of smartphones with HD displays on the market, the parameters of the iPhone are already not so impressive, but in terms of pixels per inch, it is still the best. The brightness level, boasted this year by the LG Optimus Black, is 500 cd / m² on the Retina display (the iPhone 4 / 4S gets its name) and has a dynamic contrast ratio of 800: 1.
The phone uses a capacitive sensor that supports only 5 simultaneous touches. This is not LG Optimus 2x for you, with the ability to figure out what they want from it by pressing ten fingers at once!

The phone comes with iOS 5.0 operating system. For owners of the two previous generations of 3Gs and 4, a new version of the OS is also available, but with a number of limitations, one of which does not really work anyway.

Integration with Twitter looks a little strange, while Facebook has somehow been forgotten. After entering your username and password, the phone offers to download the client, after which you can start communicating. Moreover, after that “Send Tweet” will appear in almost all phone menus. Since we mentioned Twitter, we can't help but mention the arrival of the iMessage feature. Programmatically, this is a complete analogue of the function for sending messages, but technically, apart from the differences in color: green - through the operator, blue - through iMessage, using this function, messages can be sent even if the device does not have a SIM card. But you can send messages only through the iMessage service, respectively, you can also receive them only through it. Is it annoying? Familiar is a great word for the look of the iPhone 4S. That summer, when the fourth generation iPhone was introduced (2010), the smartphone was strikingly different from anything on the market - glass front and back, covered around the perimeter of a ring of stainless steel. The smartphone was made catchy and tasteful, elegant and strict, different from the sleek and discreet models that were before. iPhone 4 has become something new, so new that people wanted to touch it, touch perfection, feel how this thing lies in their hand.
Few people leave the house just to hold it, but not to say that it is not beautiful to the touch. The iPhone 4 was the quintessence of a unique production, and its successor followed in its footsteps. Compared to many modern Android smartphones, the 4S is quite small, dense and heavy, according to different sensations, but can compete with almost any plastic smartphone. The 4S weighs a little more than the "four", but it is difficult to determine: the difference in weight is only 3 grams (140 and 137 respectively).
Omitting a few smallest details, even the most sophisticated eplomanes will not be able to spot design differences from a distance. The appearance of the 4S is identical to the iPhone 4. Some elements have been shifted by a fraction of a millimeter, and it also uses the exact same antenna that arrived in the CDMA iPhone 4 from Verizon this year. Much more interesting is how antennas work.
iPhone 4S can switch antennas neatly and quickly in real time, even when you're on a call. This should definitely fix the iPhone's bad reputation for connectivity issues. In any case, until millions of people test the connection quality, we will not accuse the creators of the iPhone 4S of negligence in advance.
Many changes have occurred in the filling of the smartphone. Essentially, Apple threw out everything inside the fourth iPhone and stuffed it with new parts. From scratch. For example, A5 processor. Yes, this is the same dual-core chip that powers the iPad 2, and although Apple didn't say it runs at 800 MHz - just under 1 GHz in the tablet. The RAM, unfortunately, remained at the same level - 512 MB, but the maximum amount of internal data storage was doubled, up to 64 GB.
Another major change is support for wireless networks. These are the UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA (850, 900, 1,900, 2,100 MHz) and GSM / EDGE (850, 900, 1,800, 1,900 MHz) bands, with support for CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (900, 1,900 MHz). This automatically puts the smartphone in the multi-frequency range, which means it can be connected to almost any 3G network in the US and abroad. Of course, the 4G offer is more difficult. Unless AT & T will be able, with its 14.4 MB / s HSPA + service, to give the user a little privacy within reach.
Further along the course, we have the same 3.5-inch Retina display with 960 by 640 resolution that surprised everyone 16 months ago in the iPhone 4. Its 326ppi density is certainly a cute sight that makes the display one of the best ever. But in a year and a half, the world will change again, and Retina will certainly get a serious competitor if there is no dust left to sniff. 3.5 inches is a great size for those with generally proportional hands, but opinions differ when it comes to the girth of a smartphone. For those who have lived for six months with a smartphone with “4.2 inches” written on its face, the iPhone 4S will seem narrow.
Entering our world, the iPhone 4S practically brought iOS 5 by the hand. Apple's latest iteration of the mobile operating system is supposed to knock the dust out of the cushions and things that have started to become obsolete, turning into something fundamental like Windows XP. iOS 5 offers many improvements and enhancements, small and large. Let's leave the review of the operating system for later, limiting ourselves only to remarks that the updates that iOS 5 brought with it are very solid. Take my word for it.
The only thing that deserves close attention (and without which “Let’s Talk iPhone” would be a failure) is Siri, your personal digital assistant. Siri, like Digimon, evolved from DARPA's Siri Virtual Assistant. Apple bought the company in early 2010 and has successfully implemented iOS development. Something like that.
Siri, as if deliberately avoiding other iOS devices, can only be found on the iPhone 4S. The guys at Engadget say they heard that certain processor specifications are required for successful voice recognition, and immediately presented a huge virtual machine somewhere in the center of Apple, which processes data with Siri (and which could very well be generous for weaker devices). 2, for example, runs on A5 and even faster, so there is no reason to discriminate against other iOS devices by leaving them without Siri. Well, okay, this way Apple is difficult to adhere to.
If you have anything on which to launch Siri, you will be amazed at its capabilities. A certain anthropomorphism is applicable here, so we will call "her" in the same way as we heard her in numerous videos. Calling Siri the middle sex would be a little wrong. Siri wouldn't mind, though. Ask her: "Are you a woman or a man?" and she will answer: "I was not assigned a gender." We think she's just having fun.
Siri can do a lot of interesting things, from sending texts and emails to finding restaurants and navigating from one place to another. At first glance, applications on other devices and platforms can do this. The appearance of Siri made it possible to assess the presence of contexts and dialects, to pose the problem of understanding as such.
Let's try to figure out the context. Tell your helper to send a message to her wife to remind her of the dogs to feed on the way home. You say, "Tell my wife not to forget about the dogs." Siri will send a message to your wife with the following content: "Don't forget about the dogs." How does Siri know who your wife is? The first time Siri will ask and remember.
This context works in other situations as well. For example, you receive a text message from someone, ask Siri to check your calendar, and then say, "Answer: I'll see you then." You don't have to tell who to answer, Siri still remembers. For the first time, we can feel the difference between the fact that we order someone, and the fact that we communicate with someone on an equal footing. Well, if you like, you can command, Siri won't mind.
Another good point here is that you don't need to remember commands. At least not as serious as in Android. If you need to find a specific direction on Google Navigation, you just need to say "path to library". Or "how to get to the library." Or "give me the coordinates of the library." A small difference, but already gives an awareness of how smart Siri is to understand you perfectly.
But then again, apps like Vlingo can do the same. Siri is also not designed to understand a person exactly. Test drives with a side-by-side comparison of dictation of both Siri and other applications installed on Android and Windows Phone went the same way. While Android apps require extra button clicks and are not so clear about sounds, WP apps do not correctly transcribe words at all.
Siri has great potential. She notifies you about the arrival of a new message, reads it to you and can answer with your own words. The problem here is that you cannot reread the letter before sending it, which means that you will not be able to answer in full. You can dictate the message, but you have to move your fingers while doing it.
Perhaps this will appeal to those who like to listen to their inbox, but the functionality is more limited than they would like. For example, you can ask Siri to find something on Wolfram Alpha and she will be happy to serve you, but she will not be able to read the answer. You need to look at the smartphone screen. Having to take your phone out of your pocket for a few things makes Siri less impressive than it could have been, but it's awesome anyway. We can also hope that Siri siblings will work offline, because our girl requires constant 3G or WiFi connections to get moving. Even the simplest voice command that was available on iOS can let you down as it no longer works offline. And if you try to change the melody in automatic mode, you will have to look for another way. Disassembly of the iPhone 4S showed that a new battery was implanted into the device, which is just a little more than 4. The promised increase in battery life, in theory, should happen as a result of optimizing internal organs, and not due to an increase in battery life. This, by the way, is not bad: phones will be better modest than those with a huge back ... battery.
Apple promises up to eight hours of battery life in an active 3G connection, which is an hour more than in the "four". It's funny that in standby mode the operating time has been reduced from 300 hours to 200 hours (probably restless sleep). Other characteristics remained the same: 14 hours in GSM, 10 hours for watching videos and 40 hours for listening to music. Battery testing is still ongoing.
If you are not particularly concerned with battery life, but more interested in speed, the 4S will not disappoint you even when compared to its predecessor. SunSpider 9.1 JavaScript benchmark, testing general rendering capabilities, did the best with 2,200ms on average. That's lower (faster) than 3,700 on the iPhone 4, and faster than any other smartphone we've tested. In fact, the smartphone is on a par with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (2,200), but inferior to the iPad 2 with its 1,700.
The overall impression is good when it comes to 4S performance in general. We were once surprised by the performance of the iPhone 4, and the next generation of smartphones didn't disappoint either. In other words, we didn’t see much of a difference in daily use, other than the fact that the applications were a little faster and the phone was more responsive.
Apple is quite proud of being ranked # 4 as the most popular photo sharing tool on Flickr, and now the company is giving its potential customers something powerful for taking snapshots. As long as it was sucked before the release of the iPhone 4S, the smartphone is equipped with an 8-megapixel camera, backlight and an f / 2.4 lens (improved over the old f / 2.8). Remembering Nokia (of course, with a kind word), you can see that more megapixels does not mean better, but the camera in the new iPhone 4S is amazingly good.
But let's not run ahead of the train. Apple prides itself on improving the speed at which the camera app loads and captures the shot itself, which is a very noticeable improvement over the 4, aside from using the HDR mode that was introduced back in iOS 4.1. Here he is a little late. Better to turn it off altogether.
Initially, we tested the camera in the role of casual tourists, photographing landscapes as casual passers-by would do. The quality of the images captured was definitely good, on par with some of the best cameras we've tested. The phone doesn't seem to be too concerned about contrast differences (like the Galaxy S II) and focuses well and accurately (we only blurred one or two macro shots).
The video quality is also top-notch. iPhone 4S records at 1080p30 for crisp, vivid footage. Auto focus works smoothly.
Overall, the camera improvements are welcome, but there is one thing Apple hasn't fixed: lens placement. The lens peephole is still too close to the edge of the smartphone, so it is not uncommon for fingers to fall into it.
RESULTS. Is it the best iPhone of all time? Of course. iPhone 4S took over the crown from the iPhone 4, became more cheerful and got a great camera, and most importantly, it did not put on weight. This is actually the best iPhone on the market, but two main questions remain: is this the best phone on the market and which smartphone should you choose? It is known that the best is the enemy of the good.
The first question is difficult to answer. If you love iOS, you can afford to buy everything in the App Store and you enjoy swimming in the Apple ecosystem, then yes, this is the best phone in the equation. If you want to buy anywhere or you like Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, MeeGo (underline the necessary), then it is rather difficult to assess the prospects of the device. The 3.5-inch display and lack of 4G connectivity make the iPhone 4S a bit conservative, which is unlikely to appeal to those who want to be on top of the tech wave.
Do you need such a phone? Well, if you want an iPhone and haven't got it yet, then yes, of course. The 4S will cost just $ 100 more than its predecessor, but will run longer as it has the privilege of being backed by Apple. In much the same way as, for example, it has support for 3GS, while 3G is already quieting down. If you have not yet come across what iOS is in full measure, being its user, it is better to choose the proven option. 4S is better in everything "just" 4, but the letter S does not make the new generation significantly different.

If you don't look closely, the iPhone 4S may seem identical to the iPhone 4. But the differences, albeit minor, are still there. The first is the model number on the back of the case. Secondly, these are black stripes separating the antenna units (metal rim around the perimeter). On the iPhone 4, they are located on the left and right at the bottom, as well as on the top, closer to the audio output. The iPhone 4S has no top strip, but there are two additional ones on the right and left ends.
The front panel is decorated with a front camera, speaker, sensors, Retina touchscreen display with a diagonal of 3.5 ”and a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. The traditional home key is located under the touchscreen.

The function of the intelligent voice assistant, although it can work on other iOS-devices (found out thanks to folk craftsmen), is still officially intended for the iPhone 4S. Unfortunately, in Russia it is practically useless: the Russian language is not supported, the navigation search across the country does not work. I was carried away by this service for about 30 minutes, since it is difficult to use it in English - he does not understand Russian names, and sending messages in English (to subscribers previously renamed into English) is somehow awkward.
When Siri comes to Russia, then it will make sense to study it thoroughly.

In the new model, the games not only do not hang, but also load much faster, although the processor has not been changed either.
The manufacturer claims that in standby mode the device holds a charge up to 300 hours, in operating mode up to 14 hours i.e. works up to two days .. Capacity 1430mAh. Average statistics, but such a battery will be enough to play and work. This parameter is also a significant plus, unlike flagship models, which will have to be charged more often.

Compared to the previous model, there are obvious improvements, the pictures are better, but there are no special changes regarding the video camera. Here is an 8 megapixel camera with a backlit matrix, autofocus is also available. You won't surprise anyone with a high-quality picture of a mobile device, but on the other hand, some gadget models take pictures rather slowly: wait until the autofocus is adjusted, then until the image is saved ... In a word, a long and long wait. There are no such problems in this device, a good picture in a split second and you can take pictures again.
