Description

Poor computer performance:

  • On boot (takes a long time to boot the system or desktop)
  • Slows down from time to time
  • Frequently slows down and freezes
  • When running games or demanding programs
  • After reinstalling Windows
  • When waking up from sleep or hibernation
  • Freezes sharply for a few seconds
  • Brakes when scrolling the page
  • Programs open for a long time
  • Low FPS in games
  • Slow internet
  • Hangs tight

At the same time, the computer used to work quickly. But it is possible that the problem is observed immediately after purchasing a PC.

Cause

There can be many reasons - from software errors to hardware failure:

  • The presence of a process that loads the system;
  • Viruses or the presence of several antiviruses in the system;
  • A large number of startup programs;
  • RAM problem;
  • Failure of a hard disk or any other component;
  • Logical media errors;
  • Wrong power supply circuit;
  • Overheating (more often, for laptops or monoblocks);
  • Driver problem (usually after reinstalling Windows);
  • Glitch in the work of peripheral devices;
  • System error;
  • Update installation curve;
  • Obsolescence of the computer;
  • Non-compliance with system requirements.

As a rule, it doesn't matter if we have a desktop computer or a laptop / all-in-one. Most of these problems are true for any PC.

In this article, we will try to consider the maximum possible options and solutions.

Solution

The article focuses more on the Windows system, however, most of the recommendations are valid for other operating systems.

Before proceeding with the steps below, simply try restarting your computer. If it worked for a long time without restarting, this may be the reason. You can see how long Windows worked without rebooting using this article.

1. Check your computer for viruses

Viruses can launch their own processes, which lead to system brakes. You can check your computer using the CureIt utility or any other equivalent.

You can also temporarily (or permanently) install 360 Total Security antivirus and perform a regular scan - the program will offer to delete not only suspicious files, but also clear startup and temporary data:

We agree, after we restart the computer.

We also make sure that several anti-virus products are not installed on the system - otherwise, they will conflict and create additional unnecessary load.

2. Checking the status of the HDD / SSD

a) Physical condition:

Installing a utility to check the hard drive and display the status of S.M.A.R.T. such as HD Tune or CrystalDiskInfo. If you find errors or warnings, you need to replace the media.

The state should be close to 100%, otherwise, the disk may cause poor performance:

b) Free space:

Among other things, you need to make sure that you have disk space:

If there is not enough space, the system will slow down.

c) Logical state:

If, when viewing the load on the computer, the disk constantly shows 100% load, you can try to disable the paging file. Read more in the article The disk is 100% loaded. If you need to have a swap file, set static values (the same for the maximum and minimum - this will exclude its fragmentation):

3. Disable visual effects

With poor graphics performance, you should try disabling all the beauties of Windows.

Go to Control Panel - system and safety - System- click on Additional system parameters:

In the tab Additionally in the "Performance" section, click on Options- in the window that opens, put the switch in the position Provide the best performance:

4. Install / update drivers

The problem is less relevant, starting with Windows 10, since the latter is able to automatically update drivers (if there is an Internet connection), but does not exclude the possibility of a problem.

And so, the absence of a driver for the device or the presence of a version with an error can lead to incorrect operation of the equipment and, as a result, to any problems, in particular, the slow speed of the PC.

We go to the device manager (command devmgmt.msc or right click on This computer in the explorer - Control - Device Manager). All devices must have drivers installed (no exclamation marks):

You can install or update drivers manually by downloading the latest versions from the manufacturer's website or automatically using a special program, such as DriverHub.

5. Checking running processes

We open Task Manager(Ctrl + Shift + Esc) - in the window that opens, you can see the utilization of equipment as a percentage:

If the computer resources are completely clogged (90% or more), you need to find the processes that do it. This information can be seen in the same task manager, but specialized utilities, such as Process Explorer, will show more detailed information.

We accept the license agreement - the main program window will open with the processes running on the computer and information about the resources they occupy.

We sort the list by processor utilization:

* System Idle Process shows idle processor (free resource). The higher this indicator, the better.

We sort the list by memory utilization (actually allocated pages, excluding shared ones):

We sort the list by memory utilization (the sum of all memory pages):

If there are processes that load the system, we try to nail them:

However, when trying to stop the process svchost we get the error:

Here you need to act differently. Hover the cursor over the name of the process - a pop-up window appears with a list of services that hang on this process:

  • we clean the computer from temporary files. There are various utilities for this, for example CCleaner.
  • we clean the register. The safest way to do this is with the aforementioned CCleaner.
  • we remove programs and games that we no longer use. This should be done using the "Programs and Features" tool, or, again, CCleaner.

In new computers with pre-installed Windows, especially laptops, the manufacturer / seller considers it their duty to install all the programs in the world. Removing this "necessary" software can lead to the fact that the computer will start to boot and work better than 2 times!

If your new Lenovo laptop is slow, update or uninstall the preinstalled antivirus.

7. Testing RAM

This is another component that is often the source of performance problems.

You can test memory in different ways:

  1. If there are several slats in the computer, we take out everything, leaving one. We test and move it to a different bar.
  2. We use a special utility, for example, memtest86.
  3. Trying to plug memory into different slots on the motherboard.

If problems are found, we hand over the memory as a guarantee or replace it with a new one. You need to buy the same bar as the others, or read the motherboard compatibility sheet.

8. Checking the condition of the rest of the equipment

Download and install the AIDA64 program and conduct a system stability test:

If problems are found, the program will display an error. In this case, the defective component must be replaced.

9. Assessing the operation of the power supply and electrical outlets

Not always obvious, but the real problem is the lack of power supply for the normal operation of the components.

There are several approaches to testing this theory:

  1. Move the computer to a different power source, possibly in a different location.
  2. Replace the power supply.
  3. Use diagnostic utilities such as AIDA64.

In laptops, when running on battery power, the system may run slower to conserve power. In this case, we connect the portable device to a power source or change the power supply mode from economical to productive.

10. Configuring the power supply scheme

By default, Windows uses a balanced power scheme. This is not always the best solution in terms of performance.

To change the power scheme, open the Windows Settings and enter "power" in the search - select Choosing a power plan:

In the window that opens, reveal the hidden option by clicking on Show additional diagrams- in the menu that opens, select High performance:

* if we see that the switch is set to the "Energy saving" position, we should first try switching to Balanced.

11. Watching the temperature

Overheating can cause poor performance - the system will run slower to prevent burning of components.

To see the current temperature of the main components, you can use the above AIDA64 or SpeedFan.

If the fact of overheating is detected, you must perform the following actions (not recommended for warranty computers):

  1. Disassemble the computer and clean it from dust.
  2. Depending on the overheating component:
    • Remove the processor cooler, remove the remaining thermal paste, apply new thermal paste and replace the cooler.
    • Remove the cooler of the video card, remove the rest of the thermal paste, apply a new thermal paste and put the cooler back.
  3. In the case of a desktop computer, install a cooler that blows hot air out of the case.
  4. Check the functionality of all fans (visually and using a program, eg SpeedFan).

12. Checking peripherals

Poorly working or starting to glitch peripherals can lead to problems with the computer itself.

Disable all devices except the mouse. We take out the CD-disk from the drive, if any. We check the performance of the computer. Disconnect the mouse, connect the keyboard, continue the test. If the computer works well without peripherals, we connect additional devices one at a time to determine which one the problem is.

13. Network Problems / Slow Internet

The system can be installed with software, the work of which is highly dependent on the network. If there is a network connection, but there is no network as such (for example, due to a logical error), these programs may try to send requests with high timeouts (waiting for a response). At the same time, at the moment of waiting, they create a strong load on the system, slowing down its work. This, most often, leads to a deterioration in the computer's load or attempts to launch various programs.

In this case, try pulling out the network wire or turning off WiFi. If the problem is resolved, try to sort out the network - it could be a temporary glitch or a firewall that is not working properly.

If, by itself, the computer is working satisfactorily, but the speed of the Internet is slow, measure it using the corresponding article. If the speed is poor, try unplugging the cable from the router and plugging it directly into the computer - if the speed remains low, contact your service provider. Otherwise, try connecting your computer to the router over a wire rather than WiFi. If it does not help, reconfigure the router or replace it - quite often, switching to a 5 GHz frequency helps.

14. Make sure that the power of the computer meets the system requirements

If performance is low when launching certain programs or games, as well as after changing Windows to a newer version, it is worth examining the system requirements of these software products. It is possible that the computer does not need to work quickly with them.

If the problem only occurs with one specific program / game, try reinstalling it.

If the computer worked quickly with the same program / game before, try to analyze and then the problems started. Also try to disable your antivirus software before starting.

We keep track of the number of programs running at the same time. In some cases, a browser with a large number of open tabs + office programs may be running on the computer. Each process requires resources. It is also worth knowing that each open browser tab is a separate process. We must keep track of the number of open programs and close everything that we don't use, otherwise, buy a more powerful computer.

If our computer has less than 4 GB of RAM and we do not plan to expand, do not install 64-bit Windows - it consumes a little more resources. If more than 4 GB - install Windows x64, otherwise, all resources will not be used. This is also true for the choice of the edition of the system: you should not install the maximum possible Windows, not the fact that all the possibilities will be used, and resources will be wasted.

15. We use specialized software

There are utilities that can analyze your PC and report a possible performance problem. One of these utilities is Auslogics BoostSpeed.

However, this program requires a license, so either we buy it or use it as a source of information.

16. Assessing performance

Starting with Windows Vista, there are system tools for assessing overall system performance. Based on this, we can conclude which of the components is outdated or slow.

To begin with, we perform the following check:

a) Windows 7:

Right click on A computer - Properties... In the window that opens, click on the link Windows Performance Index and press Rate Computer... The assessment process will begin, which can take up to 10 minutes - we are waiting, after which we will receive the results, for example:

* in this example, you can see that the weakest component is the video card. This computer should comfortably solve office tasks, but it will slow down when launching demanding games. The maximum score is 7.9 points.

b) Windows 10/8:

Starting with Windows 8, the performance index assessment is started from the command line. To do this, open it as administrator and enter the command:

winsat formal -restart clean

We are waiting for the end of the process. Then open the folder \ Windows \ Performance \ WinSAT \ DataStore... In the list that opens, select the last file by date, the name of which contains Formal.Assessment (Recent) .WinSAT.xml and open it with any browser:

We are interested in the tag WinSPR:

For convenience, you can download a utility that allows you to see the assessment in a convenient form - Winaero WEI Tool. Download, unpack, run:

* please note that the maximum score is 9.9 points.

I will also mention that in addition to the built-in tools, there are other utilities. For example, the free WhySoSlow.

17. Examining the system log

Based on the entries in the system log, you can try to draw conclusions regarding the operation of the PC. It is possible that this will help solve the problem.

The journal can be opened with the command eventvwr or from the control panel.

It is necessary to pay attention to all errors and warnings, first of all, for system events:

18. Trying to turn off hibernation mode

If the hibernation file is damaged, waking up the computer will be accompanied by lags for several minutes. To solve the problem, turn off the power saving mode, restart the computer, turn on the mode again.

To do this, open a command line as administrator and enter:

We reboot the computer. We return the hibernation mode:

19. Software incompatibility

This is true in cases where everything works slowly at the time of launching several programs at the same time.

As a solution, we try to update the program data. If add-ons (plugins, extensions) are used, we try to update, reinstall, disable, uninstall them.

20. Game customization

If the computer runs slowly only when starting computer games or in one particular game, low FPS (while the computer is quite efficient), then you need to look at the settings of the computer game itself.

Some games have an option to support multi-core processing, for example, in CS:

Generally, it should be turned on for optimal performance.

21. Reinstall Windows

If all else fails, it remains to reinstall the system. This is not the best way to solve the problem and should only be used as a last resort.

Perhaps, before doing this, it is worth trying to roll back the system using a checkpoint to a time when the computer was working normally. And, if this does not help, we copy important data to another medium or to the cloud, and reinstall the operating system.

This last resort can be caused by various problems:

  1. The presence of a system error, which is very difficult to understand even for a highly qualified specialist.
  2. Updates installation curve.
  3. Garbage accumulated over the years after installing / removing various programs.
  4. Single or multiple 87.5% overflow of the system disk. The problem is related to the peculiarity of the NTFS file system to reserve 12.5% of the space for the MFT (which is needed for the normal operation of the file system itself). When space runs out, the system consumes 12.5% of the reserved space from the MFT, which can lead to fragmentation of the latter. Defragmentation won't help.

On average, in my experience, the lifespan of a Windows operating system is 2 to 5 years.

22. Updating BIOS

But there is a nuance! If the computer starts to work slowly by itself, updating the BIOS will not help. The need for this procedure is only in the case when the computer began to slow down after replacing any equipment, for example, a processor, disk, memory, and so on.

23. Change the computer

In the case when even reinstalling Windows and all of the above did not help to solve the problem, and the computer continues to work slowly, it is time to change the computer itself.

Firstly, over the years, the physical properties of components deteriorate due to the appearance of microcracks and oxidation of contacts, and secondly, the software becomes more demanding and there is a need to increase capacity.

On average, the lifespan of a computer is 3 to 7 years.

Severe performance degradation is one of the most common problems that a computer user sometimes has to face.

There are many reasons that can cause "brakes" in the system. Fortunately, the user can fix many problems on his own and quite easily.

The most common problem is overheating

Computer parts generate a lot of heat during operation. For its efficient removal, cooling systems are installed inside the PC. But their work can be disrupted due to dirt and dust, or they themselves can break down, then overheating occurs. As a result, the computer starts to "slow down" or even shut down at the most unexpected moment.

Consider what signs may indicate overheating of some computer components:

  • The PC often freezes, especially when launching games and other resource-intensive applications;
  • a sharp decline in productivity.

Users can eliminate this problem without the help of specialists, especially when it comes to stationary PCs. In this case, cleaning the PC from dirt and dust is enough to troubleshoot the problem.

Here is the procedure for cleaning the system unit:

  1. disconnect the power cord;
  2. open the cover of the block;
  3. remove dust and dirt;
  4. checking the cooling system;
  5. replace thermal paste if necessary;
  6. assemble the computer and check its operation.

No special tools are required to clean the desktop PC. It is quite possible to do with a soft brush and a screwdriver; a vacuum cleaner will not be superfluous, since it is more convenient to remove a large layer of dust with it.

Laptop users are less fortunate, despite the fact that the cleaning process is approximately the same as for stationary PCs, it is extremely rare to perform it the first time on your own. The first times it is better to use the help of professionals.

Problems due to incorrect update

There are many updates to the operating system that fix the bugs found. Usually they are downloaded and installed automatically. At the same time, the installation of updates may go wrong for various reasons.

In this scenario, the following problems may occur:

If the user is faced with any of the listed problems after installing updates, then he needs to do the following:

  1. roll back the system to the point when there were no problems;
  2. make sure there is free space on your hard drive;
  3. check your internet connection;
  4. try to install the update manually from the Microsoft website.

Lack of free space

If the computer starts to slow down, Windows 7 may simply not have enough free space on the system disk. The fact is that during the operation of the system and programs, many temporary files are created, if there is not enough space for their creation, then the system starts to slow down. In addition, space may be needed for virtual memory.

You can free up space on the system drive in the following ways:

  1. removal of unnecessary applications;
  2. transferring or erasing large files, such as movies;
  3. cleaning temporary files.

The first two ways to increase free space are usually straightforward for users. But by cleaning temporary files, questions arise regularly. Meanwhile, this procedure is not complicated either.

There are two ways to do it:

  • using system tools;
  • using third party utilities.

The use of special programs for deleting temporary files shows great efficiency, but requires higher qualifications from the user. Therefore, let's look at how to get rid of temporary files using the tools built into Windows 7.

To do this, you need to do the following:

Advice. Special utilities, for example, CCleaner, are much more efficient in removing temporary files. They can often perform additional functions to increase the speed of the system.

Viruses

Computer viruses pose a major threat to information security in the modern world. They can destroy important data, steal payment information, or have a significant impact on the speed of your computer.

Let's consider the main signs of a virus infection of the system:

  • decrease in the speed of work;
  • the appearance of strange files and folders;
  • disappearance of information;
  • the appearance of error messages;
  • incomprehensible processes that are causing a serious load on the CPU.

At the first appearance of signs of infection, it is necessary to scan the PC for the detection of "infection" by the installed protection means.

The installed antivirus is far from always able to detect all threats that have penetrated the user's computer.

Browser issues

Often, users may experience a decrease in performance while browsing the Internet. It is most often associated with the installation of unnecessary extensions and toolbars.

Let's see how to remove unnecessary toolbars inWindows 7:

Unused add-ons should also be disabled.

Do it inYandexBrowser as follows:

In most cases, performing these simple steps can significantly increase the speed of opening pages and working with the browser.

Hard drive problems

Having problems with the hard drive very often leads to a situation where the computer completely freezes or opens applications very slowly.

All hard drive problems can be divided into the following categories:

  • hardware faults;
  • logical errors;
  • large data fragmentation.

The most difficult option if bad sectors appear on the hard drive. They significantly slow down the operation of the entire system and may be evidence of an imminent failure of the hard disk.

You can check for bad sectors using the built-in Windows 7 tools.

To do this, follow these steps:

In the troubleshooting process, the bad sectors will be replaced with workers from a special area of the HDD. It should be borne in mind that a large number of bad blocks indicates the possibility of an imminent breakdown of the hard drive. It is better to copy important data to avoid losing it as soon as possible.

Lots of startup programs

When installed, many programs are written to autorun. Of course, the user can opt out of this option, but as a rule, he does not. However, any application running on the computer degrades the overall performance of the system. Therefore, it is recommended to disable unnecessary programs at startup.

You can remove an application from autorun using standard tools or using special utilities.

Consider how inWindows 7 to remove the application from autorun using the built-in OS tools:

Poor hardware performance

The performance of Windows 7 can also be affected by the power of your computer's hardware. This is especially true for PCs that were purchased 5-7 years ago.

The main components that affect the speed of the system:

  • CPU;
  • video card.

The easiest way to get rid of the brakes due to obsolete components is to upgrade. During it, outdated PC components are replaced with more modern ones. But it is always necessary to observe the compatibility of the purchased parts with those already installed in the computer.

As a rule, problems causing a decrease in performance are not related to breakdowns of computer parts and therefore can be easily eliminated by the user. If this was not done, then it is better to contact the service center for help.

Slows down your PC? There are a lot of reasons for slow computer operation with frequent freezes and brakes. Virus infection, dust accumulated in the system unit, lack of space on the system disk, and much more. The PC needs to be serviced periodically. There is a whole range of measures for this, and we will help you deal with them and optimize your PC so that it works again as if it had just come from the store.

Viral contamination

Windows 7 computer slows down what to do? Most often, this is due to the activity of malicious programs. The user sees the symptoms of infection as freezing or slowing down during work. There are a lot of types of viruses and they all behave differently: some send confidential user data to their avatar (the fraudster who created the virus). Others copy themselves to all folders and directories in order to do as much harm as possible by infecting all files on the computer. Still others use traffic to download various content through the infected computer. The most common are adware viruses, they run ads on all browsers, slowing down the browser in every possible way on the web.

The first step is to scan for malicious activity. And you need to do this with third-party antiviruses. The stationary antivirus is most likely already infected and will not be able to detect the threat. You can use free cloud scanners Dr.Web CureIt !, KasperskySecurity Scan, ESET Online Scanner for scanning.
Cure the computer if an infection is detected and install a new stationary antivirus.

Lots of startup programs

When installing various programs, they are often registered in the Windows startup, and then loaded automatically when the computer is turned on every time. If there are many of these programs, they run in the background and consume some of the resources, as a result of which the computer freezes.

  • To disable unnecessary programs from Windows autorun, open the utility “ Execute»Key combination Win + R , and in oke we write the command
  • Switch to the tab and turn off all unnecessary things.

Here you can find not only applications installed by the user, but also virus programs.

Overheating due to excessive dust and dried thermal grease

The cooling system of a personal computer and laptop is designed in such a way as to cool the heating components of the PC by blowing air from the room. Dust that flies in the air gets into the system unit. Most of all, of course, it concentrates on fans and radiators. The longer you do not clean your computer, the more dust builds up on all the components of the PC, making it difficult to cool. And it can even provoke short circuits. And also, over time, the cooling thermal paste dries out on the central processor.

Tip: The PC should be cleaned from dust at least once every 2 years. And at this time, change the cooling paste between very hot elements. And if there are animals (cats or dogs) in the dwelling, then cleaning should be carried out once every six months or a year. Since together with the dust insystemistparticles of animal hair also enter.

System disk full

Windows 7 slows down when the system disk is full, then unstable work and freezes may occur. You can clean the system HDD with the built-in Windows tools.

  • Go to the menu " Start».
  • Next, click “ A computer».
  • Click on the local HDD with the right mouse button and select “ Properties».
  • Click on the button " Disk Cleanup ".
  • We are waiting for the system to analyze the junk files, then tick off all the items for cleaning, and clean it.
  • Next, we need to clean up the system files.
  • Press again “ Cleaningdisk". Next, we need to click on the button " Clean up system files". Again, we wait and mark all the items with labels. Next, we clean up.

In the section of cleaning from system files, you canbetens of gigabytes of temporary files, restore points, old updates. All this slows down the computer.

Hard disk errors

A hard disk consists of many mirrored disks, divided into sectors. Each sector has a certain size, files are written to them. If these sectors are damaged, it is impossible to write information to them. And when the system tries to read this bad sector, various errors and freezes are observed.

  • You can check the HDD for bad sectors and fix them using the built-in CHKDSK utility.
  • We launch it from the local disk properties window in the “ Service».
  • We press the button "Disk analysis".
  • Check the boxes for detecting and automatically fixing bad sectors.

The system disk could not be checked duringworkoperating system. To start the scan, you need to restart your computer.

Out of RAM

Random access memory is the computer's memory for quickly working with programs and components. Drivers, utilities and applications are loaded into RAM when the program is turned on or at startup, until the user manually disables the program, or when it is turned off. Then the RAM is automatically cleared. This is a temporary storage of information. The processing speed of RAM is much higher than that of a hard disk, but the volume is also much smaller. A common reason for slow work is precisely the lack of RAM. Here the only way out is to increase the memory by replacing the RAM bar with a larger one in stationary computers. In laptops, the situation is more complicated, replacing the RAM with a larger one or adding memory, in most cases, is not possible, due to the limited technical characteristics of the laptop. Here you can try to increase.

Weak processor

The situation with a weak processor only implies an upgrade to more powerful hardware in a PC. Any overclocking of the CPU can lead to sad consequences when the processor completely burns out or fails.

Severely fragmented hard drive

Let's conditionally represent a hard disk in the form of a notebook sheet in a box. Each cell is a sector of the hard disk. When recording any information on the HDD, it is recorded in these cells. Files of different sizes occupy a different number of cells. After deleting information, empty sectors are occupied by other information and so on ad infinitum. If the volume of one cell (sector) is not enough to write a file, it is written into 2.3 or more sectors. Free sectors can be located in different parts of the disk, and the file is split into fragments - fragmented ... It is difficult for the hard drive to read fragmented files, hence freezes. Periodically you need to defragment your hard drive.

  • This can be done in the local disk properties window. In the tab “ Service"- the second tile" Defragmentation».
  • We scan the disk. And we carry out defragmentation.

The process can take several hours, it depends on how much the HDD is fragmented.

Your laptop is unbearably slow and you don't know what to do with it? No need to yell, get nervous, throw the mouse or hit the keyboard with your hands. It won't help! I have more efficient ways. If your laptop worked quite normally right after the purchase, but today it started to glitch and slow down, then you will find the solution to your problem in this lesson.

How sometimes the laptop slows down, very familiar to me. I myself have a laptop that I have to optimize from time to time for normal operation. Let's take a look at 8 steps to get our laptops working well.

Overheating laptop

Today, a laptop is a technique that most often heats up well, and if you do not clean the device from dust for a long time, then the laptop simply overheats and starts to slow down. The user begins to notice this in games, and a little later glitches appear at every step ( when watching a video, opening a browser, launching programs, etc.).

First of all, use the program AIDA64 to view the temperature of the processor and graphics card. You can download it.

After installing AIDA64, on the left, open the Computer tab and then Sensors. The temperature will open on the right. pay attention to Cpu(processor) and GP(video card).

If the temperature is very high, it means that it's time to disassemble the laptop, clean it from dust and spread new thermal paste. If there is no experience in this topic, then of course I would entrust this work to a specialist.

Viruses in the system

If the speed of the laptop did not deteriorate gradually, but sharply, that is, it worked well yesterday, and today it is terribly dull, then the problem may be in malware. If you are hooked somewhere, then it is because of him that the laptop can slow down.

I advise you to scan your system for malware. The installed antivirus is unlikely to work here, it's better to download the free CureIT utility. It is free, does not require installation and always has fresh databases.

Run the downloaded file and click Full Scan.

At the end of the operation, neutralize the threats found and restart the laptop.

Of course not always laptop slows down due to viruses or overheating, since in order to bring the components to overheating, you need to try hard, and malicious software enters the system mainly from novice users. In your case, the reasons " glitches and braking"may be very different, and let's talk about them further.

Startup programs

The more programs you run on your laptop, the slower it will run. Sometimes we ourselves do not pay attention to how many different applications are running. The fact is that when some of them are added to startup, that is, they are automatically launched when the laptop is turned on. These include Skype, ICQ, torrents, antiviruses, download managers and the like. Some of these programs are extremely rarely used, so why are they constantly working? Let's deal with them!

Press the key combination WIN + R on the keyboard and in the launched program Execute enter the msconfig command.

Startup will be performed System configuration where you want to open the tab.

If you have Windows 7, then here you will see a list of all programs that run with the laptop. And if you have Windows 8 or 10, then you still need to click the link to open Startup Open task manager". In this window, sometimes there are several dozen programs that, in addition to slowing down the system startup, also slow down the laptop during operation. So it turns out that the laptop slows down due to the load of the RAM and processor. Uncheck those programs. that are not needed to work immediately after starting Windows.

Please note that there may be names of programs unknown to you. Do not rush to remove this program from startup. First of all, use a search engine and read the description of this program. Then draw your conclusions!

After removing unnecessary programs from startup, it remains to apply the changes and restart the laptop.

Low system disk space

If the system drive on which Windows is installed is clogged to capacity, then this can also be the reason for the unstable operation of the laptop. I advise you to free up disk space using the following methods:

Littered registry

Getting rid of all the junk is an important step towards stable laptop performance. If you frequently install and uninstall programs, then the number of unnecessary entries in the registry grows greatly, and this affects the work. If you don't want to wonder from time to time, why the laptop slows down and what to do then remember to keep the registry clean.

You can clean the registry by clicking a few buttons in the free CCleaner program. Download, install and run.

Open the Registry tab and click Find Issues.

The found records need to be corrected and the operation repeated a couple of times.

6. Low RAM

Right-click on Computer and select Properties.

In the window that opens, find the line Installed memory... It shows the amount of RAM on our computer.

If you have 2 gigabytes or even less, then this can cause programs to run slowly, close suddenly or even freeze. Ideally, you need to increase the amount of RAM to 4 gigabytes by purchasing one or two memory sticks. Of course, it is not always possible to do this, so at least make sure that the system has ( The swap file is the addition of RAM at the expense of hard disk memory).

Checking and defragmenting the disk

The next step to saving the laptop is to check the hard drive for errors and defragment it. You can read more about this in my other lesson, but here I will only show you how to do it correctly and thereby speed up access to files on the hard disk.

Download Defraggler and install (free and simple).

After launching, we need to right-click on the disk and select Advanced - Finding Disk Errors.

After the analysis is complete, you can start defragmentation. Right-click on the disk again and select the next item Defragment.

This procedure is not fast. It can last as long as a few minutes or several hours.

The laptop is very weak

If your laptop slows down, then you can speed it up by following all the steps described above. I want to say right away that it is not a solution to all problems especially if you have the cheapest and weakest laptop. Do not run many programs, make sure that the laptop does not overheat, do not clog it with rubbish and remove viruses at the slightest danger. These will be the basic rules for more or less stable operation of a weak laptop.

Bonus Chips!

If nothing helps you and the laptop still slows down, then I am extremely surprised. Usually these 8 methods solve most of the problems and the laptop starts to perform much better. But as a last resort, I have additional advice.

Installing an SSD disk

My incredibly slow laptop after installing an SSD disk on it and installing Windows 10 on this disk, it began to work much faster.
I already wrote about this in my article:. There I described all the "miracles" of this type of drive. Unlike the classic hard disk drive (HDD), the latest SSD drives are much faster, which greatly affects the launch of the system, programs and work in them.

Reinstall Windows

I understand that it is not always possible to fork out for a new thing. In this case, follow all the above-mentioned points to optimize the laptop. Let me remind you, there are eight of them! Well, if all else fails, you will have to "kill" all possible system problems at once.

Buying a new laptop

Of course, if you have a laptop bought a couple of years ago, then it's too early to look for a replacement.
And if your " friend"for 10 years already, then I think it is extremely outdated and it remains either to put up with constant brakes and glitches, or to buy a new modern laptop.

I hope my great article helped you " rock"my laptop. Good luck and see you in new articles and video tutorials.

IMPORTANT! P.S. Well, if your computer lags, then I advise you to read the lesson: There I told a few more tips on optimization.

If you do not monitor your computer, then sooner or later you will have to answer the opposite question?

Answering this question, we will give 6 steps, following which regularly, you will forget what a slow computer or a computer slows down.

To prevent overheating of components, it is necessary to regularly and other contamination. As a result of overheating, the protection mechanism is activated in and - throttling... As a result, performance decreases and the computer begins to think for a long time - to slow down.

This is noticeable under load. Let's say you work in a Word, then turn on a high-definition movie or a game and the brakes begin. However, you may hear a lot of noise from those trying to blow air through the dust-clogged fins of the radiator.

Therefore, the first thing to do is to look into your own or into the cooling system at least once a year and clean it.

Be sure to unplug the power cord from the computer and remove it from the laptop before cleaning.

It is also necessary to blow off dust. It is best to blow it out with an old vacuum cleaner, and do not suck in, but blow it out. The effect is many times better. You can watch and read how to clean your computer from dust.

Another great option is to connect the drive to another computer with updated antivirus and check everything. This is especially true if you can't even log into. In this case, it is also possible that they are not deleted when the operating system is loaded, since at the time of disinfection the infected files are used and occupied by the operating system.

Step number two is to remove viruses, install antivirus and update it daily.

Restore system files

In short:

  1. Run the command line as administrator. and select Command Prompt (administrator).
  2. We write sfc / scannow and press Enter.
  3. We are waiting for completion.

If damaged system files were found and they were not restored - read carefully.

Cleaning your computer with Glary Utilites

The fourth step is to optimize your computer using Glary Utilities and the like. The program is an analogue, with which you can also do almost all of the actions below.

You can download the latest version of Glary Utilities from the official website http://www.glarysoft.com/

If you want to quickly clean the system, then go to the tab 1-Click... Push .

We are waiting for the program to find problems and click

We are waiting for Glary Utilities to fix the problems.

In the window that opens, we look through the entire list of programs, find unused ones, highlight we press them .

To make it easier to find unused programs, you can select Rarely used in the left part of the window.

Unnecessary programs have been removed now clean up startup. .

In the upper table (Programs that run with Windows), we look at all the elements and uncheck those that should not be loaded. For example . You can also turn off those that you do not always use. These programs can be launched from a shortcut on the desktop or from

And the most interesting thing. table Delayed Start Programs... We have already accelerated the loading of the operating system as much as possible by using delayed startup. There we used Task Scheduler. Here it is probably used the same way, but the interface is much more user-friendly.

For, so that the program does not start immediately select it in the upper table. Click Insert (button between tables). Double click on the delay time (the default is 30 seconds) and set the desired one. In the picture above, you can see how my download is spaced in time. Perhaps I will. You need it right away. In order to remove the delayed start of the program, select it in the table and click Cancel.

We have optimized autoloading (you can read more about autoloading).

Now, if you did 1-Click cleaning, then you don't have to clean the disk either. If not, then run and then Disk cleanup... I will show you on the example of cleaning the registry

In the window that opens, on the left, click Search for errors... We are waiting for the errors to be found. Push Fix the registry

Now it would be nice update the remaining programs to the latest versions. Hopefully, these latest versions are faster and more stable. Click on the icon .

Below on the same page there is an opportunity to download the beta version of the programs. I don't usually do this. I download and install only normal versions.

For an even more thorough cleaning, you can delete Empty folders and Broken shortcuts. These items are located.

The fourth step turned out to be voluminous. Here we removed programs, optimized startup, updated outdated programs and fought duplicates. The main part is done.

RAM and paging file

The fifth step is to have enough RAM in your computer. If there is not enough memory, then the system has to work with. The paging file, or, is a place on your drive where data from RAM is placed that is not used at that moment.

It's no secret that hard drives are the slowest device in our computers. And when using the swap file, the whole computer slows down. Therefore, there is only one recommendation, but leave the paging file. On the system disk, it is desirable that there be a paging file of 200 MB. This will be enough to record minidumps of memory. The latter are necessary for.

The seventh step is to control the visual effects of the operating system.

Conclusion

In this article, we have provided 7 steps to improve the performance of your computer. The main points, as it seems to me, are and and the system file check. Try to regularly follow at least some of these recommendations and your computer will not cease to delight you.
